Student Responsibilities
l. Consistent Attendance:
-Regular attendance is needed to receive feedback, promote music and concept retention, and to develop the muscle memory of the vocal folds and diaphragm.
-Students are expected to prioritize their lesson slot reservation.
2. Be on Time:
-Lessons will end at the scheduled end time unless Mrs. Nevitt is the reason for the late start.
-Please text Mrs. Nevitt with an ETA if you are going to be late.
3. Practice:
– Quality and consistency in practice is more important than quantity. A focused and intentional 20 min practice session is more effective than an hour of unfocused, goal-less practice.
-Specify your goals and intentions before you start your practice. (Refer to notes/videos from previous lesson to review techniques to practice).
-Write down any questions you have or struggles you are having during your practice sessions.
4. Communication:
-Let Mrs. Nevitt know ASAP if you’re going to be late or need to miss the lesson.
-Students must provide 48 hours notice of a lesson cancellation. If SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED, Mrs. Nevitt will try to reschedule the lesson for the week, but cannot make guarantees. If Mrs. Nevitt is not notified of the cancellation 48 hours in advance, the lesson will not be refunded.
-Lessons canceled by Mrs. Nevitt will be rescheduled if possible or the money will be refunded.
-Having two no call/no shows or 5+ min late with no communication will be cause for removal of the student from the studio.
5. Purchasing Sheet Music/Repertoire Books:
-Mrs. Nevitt will occasionally be able to provide copies of sheet music, however students will also be required to print PDFs or purchase music to build their own libraries and comply with copyright laws.
-If a repertoire book is purchased (typically $20-35) the student will be set for a while because it will have many songs in it. This means you might pay a little more upfront, but the student will not have to purchase music for a while.
